Mayor's Update #7: City Hall Staff

By Mayor Bruce Peele
October 28, 2015

The Blanco City Government strives to provide services to citizens in a timely, efficient, and courteous manner. For most citizens, the “face” of the City Government is the four ladies who staff City Hall. This week’s Mayor’s Update highlights these four public servants.

AMY VAN PELT, City Secretary. Amy is a graduate of Blanco High School. Her employment with the City of Blanco began in 2000 as the City’s Utility Billing Clerk. In 2005, she became the liaison to the newly-formed Planning and Zoning Commission, serving in that capacity until 2010. In 2007, she was designated Blanco’s Assistant City Secretary. In mid-2010, Amy left the employment of the City to pursue an education in Massage Therapy and Reflexology. After receiving licensure in both of these fields, she operated a private practice in Blanco. In May 2014, she returned to her former position with the City as Utility Billing Clerk. In 2015, she was selected to be City Secretary. Always seeking to increase her knowledge of her professional duties, Amy annually attends regional City Clerk’s Seminars, Election Law Seminars, and Legislative Updates.

OLGA G. GAMEZ, Utility Billing Clerk. Olga was born and raised in San Antonio and graduated from Highlands High School. She and her husband of 33 years are entrepreneurs at heart. They owned, managed, and operated a successful Texas franchise from 1982 until 2001. Through the years she has served as bookkeeper for her husband and his business ventures as well as for other clients. From 2002 to 2004, Olga attended St Phillips College in San Antonio where she studied Medical Transcription and Documentation Coding. She graduated in December 2004. Olga has lived in Blanco since June 2013. She is now employed as the City’s Utility Billing Clerk and serves as liaison to the City’s Planning & Zoning Commission.

JESSICA GARDNER, Municipal Court Clerk. Jessica was born in Austin and raised in Dripping Springs. After graduating from Blanco High School in 2008, she attended Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and studied Occupational Therapy. She later studied Medical Transcription, Billing and Coding at Med-Line School of Medical Transcription and worked several years in the healthcare field. Jessica was married in 2013 and currently resides in Blanco with her husband and their five dogs. She has served as the City’s Municipal Court Clerk since February 2015.

CINDY DEGESERO, City Bookkeeper. The newest member of the City Hall staff, Cindy grew up in Brazoria County. An admitted free spirit, she ventured afar and, over the years, has called Northern Wisconsin, Washington D.C. and Portland, Oregon home. After earning a degree in Natural History in 1998, she spent many years doing research-based work. This passion for questions and answers evolved into jobs relating to museum research, community programming, and business management. She was doing freelance bookkeeping and administrative services in Portland when, in 2013 she decided that being closer to family and living in the Texas Hill Country would be the next chapter in her book. Arriving in the fall of that year, she carefully explored her surroundings and found a happy home in Hye where she still lives with her schnauzer, Peluchin. Cindy reports that she is enjoying her work as the City’s bookkeeper while continuing to work on freelance projects and exploring the surrounding area.

Amy, Olga, Jessica, and Cindy work daily to provide Blanco citizens with the highest quality of City services in the friendliest, most courteous manner possible. The City of Blanco is indeed fortunate to have this fine team working in City Hall.
